Blackhawk Down!

GoS wants to congratulate the Chicago Blackhawks on their big win, their second Stanley in four years . The best regular season team proved to be too much for the big, bad Boston Bruins.

And just as we are about to start missing hockey, we’ve come across the British father-son fashion label Casely-Hayford .

The line is inspired by 1990’s Hip Hop artists who loved wearing oversized hockey jerseys. The looks are stellar and there is some fantastic old hockey footage in this cool video they shot to promote the collection. Summer is about to hit, but we recommend you get ahead of the game (!) and check out these sweaters for winter. We can call it “preventative shopping.

And as a side note, true story: I was at a Snoop Dogg concert in the 90’s in Calgary and he came out wearing a long black fur jacket in the middle of the summer. As he whipped the crowd into a frenzy he pulled off the jacket and underneath was a Calgary Flames Jarome Iginla jersey. The place went berserk. He’s been pulling this trick for 20 years in every city. Well played as always, Snoop.

Wimbledon Update: I have been lucky enough to get Wimbledon tickets and will be making my way to the Championships this week. Sadly, no Rafa but with Roger, Andy and the potential of a Maria Sharapova vs. Serena Williams showdown, it should be exciting.

Wimbledon Wears

Via Vanity FairNike just released images of what Federer, Rafa, Serena and Maria will be wearing at Wimbledon later this month. Nothing shocking although, they did forget to add a pair of long, dangling earrings to Sharapova’s outfit and serious bling to Serena’s. And if you go to the VF link , read the paragraph below the images. Pippa Middleton is now a contributing editor to Vanity Fair? I sigh.

How To (Not) Wear a Baseball Cap

article-2331018-19FD7A93000005DC-658_634x417

I saw a woman wearing a leopard-print jumpsuit, heels and a cobalt blue baseball cap in the bathroom at work last week. It wasn’t a good look. Then I saw the Max Mara Resort 2014 collection where every look included a colourful cap. I got annoyed.

I used to like caps on women. Or, maybe I just thought I did because they were meant to be ironic in that, here I am in my lace dress and stilettos completing my look with a baseball cap because I don’t really care even though I spent five hours getting ready way.

Now, I think unless you’re wearing a cap solely to protect your head and face from the sun and are looping your ponytail through the back old-school style, you just look obnoxious. Yes, I’m even looking at you, Dree Hemingway in your gorgeous white lace dress, sandals and your New York Yankees cap. And usually, you can do no wrong.

What did you do to me, leopard-print girl?

Oh and Nadal (a.k.a. Ocho) obviously gets a free cap pass today even though he looks so much better in the headband. Congratulations on your eighth French Open title, Rafa!

Best in Beards: From Cannes to the NHL

Joel.Edgerton.Washington.Post

MG and I have been following the Festival de Cannes for the past week and it looks like The Great Gatsby and Inside Llewyn Davis are our top picks so far. We’re both excited to see Gatsby and even with the over-the-top, trying to be everything including an actor Justin Timberlake as part of the cast, I personally can’t wait to see the new Coen brothers movie in December.

There is one under-appreciated actor in each movie: Joel Edgerton in Gatsby, top photo, and Oscar Isaac in Inside Llewyn Davis, below. You may remember Edgerton from Zero Dark Thirty and Isaac from Drive. They are both so good and should be household names very soon.

Lately, something about both of these guys looked so familiar… And then, after watching the trailers a few times and seeing photos from the Cannes photo calls, it finally came to me! Both have perfect NHL playoff beards and look like they could be starring in this year’s edition of the Stanley Cup playoffs! Check out some of the other beards in the line-up if you don’t believe me.

joe.thornton.getty

First up, Joe Thornton, who only takes a few days to start looking like Zach Galifianakis. Anyone who plays a big part in ridding the world of the Vancouver Canucks always has a place close to my heart.

Rick.Nash.Bruce.Bennett.Getty

Rick Nash will need his game to catch up to his beard if the team is going to get by the Boston Bruins in round two.

Pascal.Dupuis.Gene.Puskar.AP

Stealing the spotlight from Sid the Kid and Evgeni Malkin is not easy to do, but with 6 goals in 7 games, Pascal Dupuis is leading the charge for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Henrik.Lundqvist.Alex.Ovechkin.Greg.Flume.APAnd finally, Henrik Lundqvist led the New York Rangers into the second round with back-to-back shutouts in Games 6 and 7. After one of the games, he was overheard asking Alex Ovechkin what the deal was with his Justin Timberlake, “Dick in a Box” beard?

And of course it comes full circle back to JT. How does the guy do that?

Masters Eve

Jack-Nicklaus-AP

First off, my apologies for being AWOL for the past few weeks. I feel terrible as Sir Charles (Barkley) would say. So much to talk about in the coming weeks, but today, it’s all about The Masters.

With Eldrick Woods having his mojo back, the MSM has all but measured him up for his fifth green jacket. But over here, we are holding out hope that the presence of Miss Wozniacki will bring Rory McIlroy his first green jacket.

MG loves the man and the stripes.

MG loves the man and the stripes.

And there’s lots of style news in the world of golf as well. UNIQLO has appointed another global ambassador, bringing PGA Tour heartthrob Adam Scott into the fold. You can also see what some of golf’s biggest names will be wearing here. Our faves include a few GoS hall of famers, Luke Donald and Ian Poulter and we are slowly becoming fans of Graeme McDowell and his new line G-Mac by Kartel. As usual, the worst is Tiger Woods and his awful Nike outfits but Ashworth’s mystery entry is close behind.

Today it begins so say it with me: A B T! A B T! (a.k.a. anybody but Tiger)
