Wildcard Weekend Style

Sadly for MG, the next two weekends revolve around NFL playoffs. One day of football per week during the season is bad enough, but to have four playoff games spread over two days: my heaven and her hell. As we head into Wildcard Weekend, GoS resident expert (me) is here to give you my style notes and game predictions.

Cincinnati vs. Texas

The NFL was smart to schedule the Cincinnati Bengals visiting the Houston Texans. Not exactly a marquee match-up so we might as well get it out of the way. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Bengals; always loved their stripes and I used to do the Ickey Shuffle as a kid on Sundays. Looking back it’s crazy how bad and popular that dance was. Houston and their very U.S. of A. red, white and blue uniforms have never done it for me but I see them living to fight for one more weekend. And then getting crushed by Tom Brady…again.

Prediction: Houston. Substance over style by the slightest of margins.

Minnesota vs. Green Bay

Our Saturday night game features the hallowed grounds of Lambeau Field with the Green Bay Packers hosting Adrian Peterson the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers are football. Add that to one of the best uniforms in professional sports and what do you get?

Prediction: Green Bay. Bring on the Lambeau Leap.

Indianapolis vs. Baltimore

If you were to put up the iconic Indianapolis Colts uniform against these terrible Baltimore Ravens uniforms, it would be a crushing defeat. The former gets better with age staying true to its heritage. I would love to see the Colts pull the upset here, but I just don’t see it happening. Sadly, it will be the last time we get to see Ray Lewis do this.

Prediction: Baltimore. Hate the Ravens uniforms but this veteran team has too much experience for the young Colts.

Seattle vs. Washington

Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson are the real deal but Seattle is the complete package. I expect the Seahawks to overcome these awful road uniforms and send Washington to the sidelines. Redskins fans shouldn’t be too sad, they get to watch RG3 for the next 15 years.

Prediction: Seattle. The surging Seahawks are the real deal. If only we could do something with those road uniforms. Love the team, hate the look.
