The start of April means two things: the Masters and the return of HBO’s Game of Thrones. After this weekend, the first major has come and gone and we won’t see another one until late June and until then, we’ll keep ourselves entertained with episode after episode of GoT’s second season. As the Houses wage battle over the kingdom, the top golfers are doing the same on the course. And there are some eery similarities.
King Joffrey and Eldrick Woods
King Joffrey has so much of Tiger Woods in him I get angry just thinking about it. Both are petulant, conceited and entitled. Joffrey may be a Baratheon by name, but we all know he’s a Lannister and just as we can’t wait to see King Joffrey get what is coming to him, we enjoy watching another major slip from Eldrick’s grasp.
Robb Stark and Rory McIlroy
Ned Stark was a man of honour and tradition and golf’s UK contingent seems to be of the same ilk. Rory McIlroy (same hair alert as Ned’s son Robb Stark), Luke Donald and Lee Westwood currently own the top three spots in the world and are worthy to sit atop the throne.
Loras Tyrell of House Tyrell
Although we have yet to meet the Tyrells this season on GoT, they’ll likely be flexing their muscles soon just like Americans Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Dustin Johnson and Keegan Bradley are doing already. Are the new boys of golf ready to take over the kingdom?
