Riccardo Tisci showed the Givenchy Haute Couture S/S 2012 in an 18th century Parisian showroom-turned-basketball court. While most reviewers had no clue what was with the thrown-in bball (“What the F is with the basketball?” was a common sentiment) according to Harper’s Bazaar, the simplistic setting was meant to juxtapose the intricate gowns. I kind of get it but it seems like a bit of stretch considering Tisci’s inspirations had nothing to do with the sport.
Now, if Joan Smalls and Stella Tennant were photographed playing a little pick-up bball game in those gowns, that would be some serious juxtaposition.
(By now, you also probably know that Madonna was wearing Givenchy Haute Couture during her Super Bowl performance. Riccardo, we love you.)
