Fall’s Sporting Style

Fashion, that fickle, feisty non-friend never stops. I always forget that fashion weeks begin long before mid-February with pre-fall and menswear fall happening right now.  There will be many more looks and trend reports to come in the coming couple of months, but let’s begin with some of our favourite sport-inspired his and hers trends from the shows right now.

Still in School
We cheered on the varsity jacket trend all fall long. Although we initially planned to, we didn’t end up posting a round-up of varsity/Letterman jackets since so many other magazines and blogs did a great job of picking the best ones. But, since they’re back for another round, here are two of our favourites: Alexander Wang for him, and Prabal Gurung for her. Scroll down to the bottom for a new take on the varsity jacket for him.

Pack Back
We wouldn’t call backpacks a trend that comes and goes as there is always a designer, or two, that adds a pack here, or a pack there, but we’re loving them more and more these days. Maybe it’s the need for something practical, or just because we’re so over the shoulder bag but this Theyskens’ for Theory backpack for her and Marc Jacobs for him are both wish-list items.

Fancy (Sweat) Pants
Both CH and I have a hard time wearing sweatpants when we’re going to sweat, so sweats as formal wear is hard to get behind. Ever. That’s all. But nonetheless, here’s a look from T By Alexander Wang for him, and Stella McCartney for her.

Three-Quarter Rocker
A new take on the varsity jacket that we’ve seen in a few menswear collections so far is what I like to call, the leather arm-warmer coat or, the three-quarter rocker as seen at Alexander McQueen and John Varvatos.
