The world’s best skiers have been in our ‘hood (Lake Louise) for the World Cup the last few weeks. This past weekend, American superstar and
Olympic hero Lindsey Vonn turned a hat trick, winning both downhill events as well as Sunday’s Super-G. The previous weekend, Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal (now that’s a great ski name) won the Super-GI (Canadian Jan Hudec was 4th), while Didier Cuche won the downhill.
The World Cup always marks the official start of the ski season in the Rocky Mountains, at least for those of us who are more of the fair-weather kind. And as usual, our ski wardrobe could use a serious upgrade (just a bit too many fluorescent items still laying around).
For the casual skier (a.k.a. Malwina), the big draw of ski season is the socializing pre and post and of course, you have to look good doing it. A few Patagonia items have already caught our eye: the reversible flannel jacket and the Slingshot Down Vest. We don’t normally recommend khaki (actually, never), but the vintage look here is solid. Complete the outfit with the Beaver Canoe Sloppy Toque. Designed to wear further back and loose, it’s the perfect fit for hitting the lodge. Although, maybe the company should have thought twice before naming calling it “sloppy.”
